Vagina Warriors

Its over.
The Vagina Monologues are over for 2011.

I'm not an actor, and I don't know why I was motivated to audition, but I'm so glad I did.
It woke me to what we like to call "vaginal wonder" lol.

I say this because I'm still in awe of the realization of how much money we raised for such a great cause ($2,900 for Hope Haven, a rape victims center & for CODA, a shelter for women and girls that have been abused). I'm still in awe of how much I grew to love my fellow Vagina Warriors. For such a diverse group of women & girls, we really bonded and we had an amazing time.

I'm so privileged to have been a part of something so great.

If you ever have the opportunity to do this production, I urge you to not even hesitate.
I've been forever changed and I will never forget this experience.

Oh and now, I've also gained a whole new confidence lol. My friend was asking me to go make a fool out of myself and play cornhole in front of a ton of people I don't know (might I add, I'm horrible at cornhole). Well, I was hesitant at first but then I decided that I was on stage in front of 500 people, talking about my lady parts...I'm sure I can play cornhole in front of strangers and not have to worry about it!

Amy

therapy.

Yesterday, I was driving home from school. All I could think was, "things are way too good...something is bound to happen. My boyfriend is amazing, I've finally found the best friends a girl could ask for, my photography business is bursting at the seams, I've been doing surprisingly great in school, and I love that wedding season is finally here. My luck is oddly good."

I should have knocked on wood because wouldn't you know it, this morning, on my way to work I had to pick up a sign from a place in town. As I was putting this sign in my back seat, I realized that my back driver side tire was completely FLAT. Like down to the rim. YIKES! What do you do about that?

Well, I'm not so smart when it comes to driving and the right thing to do for a vehicle, so I drove about a mile away from where I was and put some air in the tire until it was filled and figured I'd make it to work....well then I realized that I really needed to get it fixed and not wait around at work because I had to drive into Savannah later that afternoon. 3 shops and a few hours later, I finally got an answer. I had to get the tire patched and it would be ready an hour later.

UM, I had to get to work! We have a wedding this weekend and I had a ton of things to do!
So, my sweet boss came and picked me up, took me to lunch and then to work. We got the work done and I made it through the day.

Tonight we had our final rehearsal for The Vagina Monologues and our big show starts tomorrow night! It's so bittersweet. I've loved every moment of getting ready for the show. I love the new experience I've had and it's definitely gotten me out of my comfort zone. Tomorrow night, I go on stage for a production for the first time in my life. 500 seats. My goodness!!!

After rehearsal, I was driving through downtown with the windows rolled down. What a beautiful night. So I couldn't resist, I had all of my camera equipment in my car. I had to stop and do something I've been waiting to do.

My favorite of the night.

It felt so good to kind of go back to my roots. Lately, it's been a lot of business photography for me lately. A lot of editing. A lot of work. But these photos were simple and I love how they turned out. No editing. Just the way they were taken. As I was waiting for the shutter to open back up, I just got to stand there and watch traffic go by. The breeze was amazing. I loved it. It set my mind at ease and it was like a new-found therapy. It was the perfect ending to my complicated, horrific, wonderful day.

And at the end of the day, I still have the amazing boyfriend, the best friends a girl could ask for, 3 new photography jobs (1 is a wedding!) a day off from school tomorrow, still wedding season, a patch in my tire, and some lovely new photos.
At the end of the day, life is still good.

Xoxo.

Wordless Wednesday

Since I love to talk, I might as well!

Sorry "Wordless Wednesday", I'm totally playing more of the "opposite day" thing here!
Here are a few shots from the bridal portraits I did on Sunday. I know they're only flowers and rings, but I can't show off the beautiful bride just yet!

Stay tuned for after April 16 to see them though!

Amy Lately.

You know, like Chelsea Lately?!

Well, minus a few punch lines and such, I'm feeling pretty spiffy!

This weekend was full of work, work, work! But today, Justin and I did play some :)

Friday & Saturday, I worked for Ashley Rhodes Events. We had a wedding on Spring Island. The bride is a captain of a tall ship (think pirates, yes, they're real. I met some!) and the groom is a botanist (studies flowers). They both enjoy birding and all things bugs and nature! So of course, their wedding reflected it! The tent was draped in magnolia branches (the brides favorite) and they dined on local southern flavors such as shrimp and grits. The party continued on with pirate songs and owl calls! Yes, the ship crew all sang on stage and the birders tried to do their best "whoots"! It was definitely a new experience!

Today, I had my heart set on going out in the river. But, the weather had other plans for us. It was cold and windy and very cloudy! But I wasn't taking no for an answer! So we drove out to his grandparent's dock and Justin started acting funny! He took the kayak off of the dock and jumped in the river with it. He accidentally floated away without the paddle and so I threw it at him and he didn't catch it! So he had to jump out of the kayak to catch the paddle! It was hilarious! Poor boy froze though :)

He definitely made me laugh so much harder than I've done in a while!

After our afternoon out in the river, I had to shoot a dear friend's bridal portraits! She was absolutely stunning! And I can't wait until her wedding so I can show off these beautiful photos! I did take some shots of her bouquet and ring...but I don't know if those should be posted or not?!

I may later this week so keep your eyes open!

Love y'all!

A Little Sneaker ;)

Sneak Peek
that is!

Today I had the privilege of photographing one of the sweetest couples I've ever seen.
Love was just pouring out of their smiles the whole time we were shooting.
Granted, they had just gotten married, but you could tell that their love was one for the story books. The way the looked at each other and they were just so smitten.

Here are some of my favorites from the day!

Like I said, a completely beautiful, wonderful couple.
They had a small ceremony in a little square in Savannah, Georgia with only a minister and their best friends, Megan & Brian. Unfortunately, due to a fatal accident on the Savannah Bridge and ridiculous traffic delays, I missed the whole ceremony! And I was even running 45 minutes EARLY! But when life hands you lemons, you make lemonade, right? Well, I think these make this lemonade look pretty delicious!

I love weddings!

Amy

Paging all photographers!

Hey y'all! I know it's been a while. I've fallen a little under the weather and all I did yesterday was SLEEP!
I was telling my mom that it sucks that this is my spring break and I'm so sick...but I do think this is God's way of making me catch up on my rest!

So maybe it's a blessing in disguise!
As usual, I've been super busy, but my "business" has taken off yet again. I'm looking into investing in a wide angle lens, but there are so many options! How do I choose?
So for any of y'all that are knowledgeable, your help would be great!

I wish I were on my own computer because I'd post some photos of what I've been up to, but I'm here at the firestation with the Chief ;)
Haha, it's so weird to call him that!

I don't even know what else to say because I feel like I'm missing my right arm when I don't post from my computer :( So I'll leave you with a love letter from one of the greats since I'm at a loss for words today.

I hope you all have had a lovely Monday, hopefully much better than mine!

Xoxo,
Amy

Taken from a letter written by Katherine Mansfield
"...We two, you know, have everything before us, and we shall do very great things.  I have perfect faith in us, and so perfect is my love for you that I am, as it were, still, silent to my very soul.

I want nobody but you for my lover and my friend and to nobody buy you shall I be faithful.

I am yours forever."

Simple, short, and sweet...
A lot like I'm feeling today :)

So I guess...

Wednesdays are my days to post! I originally wrote this post on Monday, but I never got around to finishing it! Eek, I'm slack :(

Well hello dears!
I am making it a goal to get this blog back into shape this week!
I can & will do it :) (EDIT as of Wednesday: Looks like that hasn't happened yet!)
So look forward to some new things, I hope

Anyways, weekend? How was yours? Hmmm?
Mine was interesting. I worked both Saturday and Sunday at Brays Island. It was my first full weekend there without anyone watching my every move and I think it went well! Unfortunately the weather was just so beautiful and I had to stay inside, kind of like what I'm having to do today :( But that's alright. One day, I'll spend my every breathing moment soaking up the sun on the river. Besides working, Saturday night, Justin and I met with another couple and had dinner and drinks at Giuseppi's in Bluffton where we watched a band. The singer was incredible! And we had a blast. I told my sister that "I actually felt like a 20-something year old for once instead of the old woman I've become." Lately, all I do is work and school. Not much time for a lot of fun but I'm trying to make time for that too. That's what my weekly girls nights are for! Sunday night, I went with some of my cast members to watch The Vagina Monologues in Savannah. It was the first time I'd ever seen the show and it was great! I loved it! And it only made me happier that I'm a part of it!

In other things, here are some of the promised photos from my President's Day weekend trip to the mountains!

Daring family tradition: To visit the original Mass General Store

They have over 500 different types of candy!

Andrea and her new lunchbox!

Mom & Dad

Seesters!

She thought about jumping ;)

Yes, I was "hiking" wearing boots, cowboy boots.

The only snow we saw :(

I have tons more, but maybe I'll post them later!

***BREAKING NEWS***
My darling, handsome boyfriend has been given the honor of being named Chief of Yemassee Fire Department. It's pretty much one of his life goals and I'm so proud! I know he's going to do amazing things for the department now that he has this control over it. He's capable of so many things and I know he's only going to give his best to the YFD!

Anyways, I'm studying for 2 big tests today! ServeSafe Alcohol and ServeSafe Foods.
Wish me luck!

Spring Break is next week and I can smell the salt water calling my name!

Xoxo,
Amy
